Club Mistral Wind Surfing Placement (CMWSP) saw 8 Irish wind/kite practitioners undertake a 13 week work placement programme in wind/kite surfing centres operated by Club Mistral throughout the Canary Islands (Spain) off the coast of Morocco. 4 participants travelled out from September to Early December 2013 and 4 in early 2014.
During their placement, participants immersed themselves in the Club Mistral model and learnt the techniques & operating systems used in their European centres. Participants covered four core areas during their placement: support of the centre manager, instruction of clients, equipment management and guest care services.
This programme gave Irish wind/kite surfers an opportunity to keep doing what they love, in the shoulder months, when the weather is poor in Ireland. Participation on the programme helped participants increase their technical ability in the area of wind/kite surfing, gave them a practical enhancement of their existing outdoor adventure skills (which can be transferred to their Irish workplace), improve their language skills, and contributed to their mobility and employability.
The programme exposed the instructors to cultural differences and enhanced their networking skills. This allowed them to build relationships with similar professionals from around Europe. (Participants flights and language training before departure were funded as well as accommodation and some subsistence provided for the full 13 weeks).
